about
I grew up in a small town on the coast. It was actually a great upbringing - loving family, friends close by, great house.
The melodrama of this song (and it is a bit melodramatic) is more reflective of how I started to feel around my early twenties. I wanted to move away, to get to the city and to make my own life.
I also began to feel properly depressed for the very first time after I returned home from a tour. This song is one I wrote many years later, thinking about what was going on in my mind then, and the feeling of the shine coming off a place. I still love that town and my parents still live there, but this is just one emotion tied to it.
Written by Evan Jones. Mixed and mastered by Zac Barter. Thanks to James Howlett for playing bass on this one and all my love to Georgia for another amazing piece of cover art.
lyrics
My little seaside life,
Suspended on a knife,
It twists and it turns itself in me
Tourists polish guns,
Salt water, colour runs,
I'm like claymation in the sun,
All stiff and done
I got my fill of perfect days,
Still feel the ocean in this place,
No matter where I go, the feeling still remains
I don't wanna be a satellite,
Burning up and crashing down,
I don't wanna be so paralysed,
All my futures happening now
And when I went away,
In soft bleed end of day,
Some distant voice recalls me to this place
I live on heaven's street,
Where dreams can take a seat,
And here is the place where lovers meet,
They call to me
The rising tide lifts every boat
But now it must have been a joke
I paddled out but then I sank just like a stone
I don't wanna be a satellite,
Burning up and crashing down,
I don't wanna be so paralysed,
All my futures happening now
If you're thinking to yourself "hey, I love lounge room recordings that vaguely remind me of music my dad thinks is cool"
well buddy, you're in for a treat. For everyone else, might I suggest listening to some Crosby. Stills and Nash and getting back to me? Here is a place where harmonies and acoustic guitars blend in a predictable and comforting way. I also like cats....more
